What began as a holiday project to bring people together became an award-winning game.

Togetherness. That is truly what the Holidays are all about. But with the endless shopping lists, events, and pressure to create literal magic, it can be easy to lose sight of this simple truth. That’s why this year Folklore set out to bring back the heart of the holidays both for our company and our partners.

Batten Down the Hatches is our fresh take on a game that has brought together friends, family, and scurvy-ridden sailors for centuries. Through a larger-than-life Kraken theme—the feared folklore beast that is rumored to make losers of this game their lunch—we got to work handcrafting this one-of-a-kind board game via 3-D printing, wood-working, laser-cutting, and other expert touches (all conceived in-house by the way).

Batten Down the Hatches earned Gold in Brand Elements and Silver in Special Event Materials at AdFed Minnesota’s, The Show 2025.

While we’re lovers of all things digital, our team and our partners loved this awesome and analog way to spend time together this holiday season—weird flex for a digital agency, we know.
